Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Position (Full Time/Spanish Speaker)
The Victims Empowerment Support Team (VEST) is looking for a Domestic Violence Victim Advocate to assist victims of Solano County with healing from domestic violence. VEST is committed to advocating for justice and healthy relationships. We provide survivor-centered crisis intervention services, offer prevention education, and provide additional support services to help stop the cycle of abuse.
Job Description:
Provide advocacy services and support to survivors of relationship violence, stalking and / or abuse and their children.
Provide crisis line, office coverage during the shift and after hours. Assess immediate crisis needs of clients and address appropriately.
Manage incoming calls and walk-ins and complete necessary documentation. Support the daily operations of the office and the Executive Director.
Complete and maintain client records that document services provided. Educate clients about dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and options/resources available.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, political science, psychology, education or related field or equivalent work or volunteer experience and training is preferred, but not required.
Must work well as a team and with persons of varied sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and with individuals who are differently abled.
Awareness of relationship violence, child abuse, and stalking is preferred. Knowledge of counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of domestic violence, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial.
Previous employment or volunteer work in human services, community agencies or other related nonprofit or social change organizations is a plus.
Good oral and written communication and computer skills are required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) speaker preferred.
