Recreation Manager
The Recreation Manager of Outdoor Adventure will direct, manage, supervise and coordinate assigned activities, and evaluate recreation programs at one or more recreation sites as well as to inspect and supervise work inside the recreation facility and around the park property. This individual performs professional work in the administration and operation of the recreation facility and programs to include communicating and networking with other departments, outside agencies and the public. This position works primarily in outdoor-focused recreation, such as hiking, watersports, archery, and camping.
Requirements and Job Specifications:
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university; Preferred: Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Area of Study (Major): Recreation Management, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field
Certification(s) Required: Professional membership with LRPA and NRPA; First Aid, CPR & AED certification within 6 months of hire?
License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license
Years Relevant Work Experience: 2 years experience in field of recreation
Other Job Specifications:
- Knowledge of municipal recreation management principles and procedures
- Knowledge of planning, scheduling, administering and evaluating the effectiveness of recreation programs and operations
- Knowledge of basic math/financial reports/budgeting
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of various software applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Office Suites, Rec Trac, Main Trac, HR/Financial software, etc.
- Knowledge of purchasing procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills & ability to relate to others in a positive manner
- Creative programming skills with the ability to assist in developing programs for diverse populations
- Strong ability to relate effectively with people of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds
- Public relations skills and public speaking ability
- Ability to multi task is essential
- Ability to quickly learn BREC policies and procedures and Programs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, staff, volunteers, patrons, BREC officials, community interest groups, and the general public.
Functions and Duties:
- Administers operation of the center(s), schedules facility staff, maintains supplies and equipment, and ensures proper maintenance of property, reporting problems to immediate supervisor and Assistant Director of Recreation
- Hires, supervises, and trains staff on BREC policies and procedures and site operations
- Supervises all programs conducted within recreation centers and on park property
- Communicates program concerns to the Conservation Manager of Outdoor Adventure/Extreme Sports and facility and park property concerns to the Assistant Recreation Department Director of CORE.
- Directs program ideas from public to Program Coordinator including program objectives
- Assists Program Coordinator in promotion of programs throughout the serviced community
- Supervises and assists with special events and group activities as directed
- Conducts observations and collects data on recreation facilities, parks, events, and programs to include attendance, type of participation, program outcomes, and performance measures.
- Maintains financial records and completes weekly and monthly reports of all activities relevant to assigned facilities
- Regularly communicates with staff, groups, civic associations, community leaders and businesses within serviced community
- Coordinates requirements of program/facility with effected BREC departments
- Assists Program Coordinator with supervision and evaluation of program quality and content at each facility
- Assist with purchasing, maintaining and distributing resale item merchandise
- Supervises site supervisors and performance reviews.

Supplemental Information:
Hours may vary from center to center and may fluctuate from core hours of 7-8 hours per day, 5-6 days per week for a minimum of 40 hours per week; overtime, weekend work and split shifts may be required.
