Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care are a 60-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Position is located at Osawatomie State Hospital, days/hours may vary. This position may require you to work weekends. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.

All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers, and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.

The purpose of the Licensed Practical Nurse position is to administers medication/treatments accurately and timely and documents such to ensure quality patient care. Report effectiveness of medication and/or untoward effect of medication to prevent patient harm as well as any unintended or unpredictable effects to maximize patient treatment by informing RN. Evaluates patient's need for PRN medication, gives specialized care as ordered by the physician. Interacts frequently with patients and provides informal one-to-ones to promote a therapeutic milieu, communicate with other staff members so that pertinent information essential to provide quality patient care is shared.

The essential functions of this position require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Must be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.

Osawatomie State Hospital Adair Acute Care is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides basic nursing care to patients unable to meet their needs of daily living. This is done by assisting patients with personal hygiene, oral hygiene, care of clothing, room care, and specials incontinent patients and encourages proper eating habits.
  • Evaluates patient's need for P.R.N. medication prior to contacting R.N. by doing a preliminary assessment of patient.
  • Makes rounds and conducts special checks on patients to ensure patient safety. This is done through regular observation of patient’s 15-minutes suicidal checks and close observation of all patients' physical and psychological status.
  • Documents pertinent information in EHR, etc., to meet standards. Documentation provides communication with regard to patients' Treatment Plan, Initial nursing care plan, response to treatment, progress toward discharge, special checks, behavioral/physical observations, etc.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: LPN Program

Minimum Qualifications: State of Kansas Minimum Requirements: Licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Kansas and one-year experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Licensing & Certification: Driver's License, State of Kansas LPN License
