Overview
The United States Navy is seeking highly motivated Medical Doctors (MD/DO) and medical students who are interested in serving as commissioned officers through the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP).
The HPSP provides financial support for qualified students attending accredited medical schools while preparing them to become physicians in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. This program offers future physicians the opportunity to graduate with significantly reduced educational debt while gaining leadership experience and serving their country.
Upon completion of medical school and commissioning requirements, participants will serve as Navy Medical Corps Officers providing healthcare to Sailors, Marines, service members, and their families around the world.
Additionally, while serving on active duty, Navy physicians may apply for residency and fellowship programs within Navy Medicine to become medical specialists in fields such as:
• Emergency Medicine
• General Surgery
• Orthopedics
• Internal Medicine
• Family Medicine
• Psychiatry
• Radiology
• Anesthesiology
• Cardiology
• Pediatrics
• Aerospace Medicine
• And many more specialties
Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) Incentives

Roles and Responsibilities
As a Navy Medical Corps Officer, responsibilities may include:
• Providing medical care to active-duty personnel, veterans, and military families
• Diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries
• Conducting physical examinations and preventative healthcare services
• Leading medical teams in hospitals, clinics, and operational environments
• Supporting humanitarian missions and global healthcare initiatives
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
• Serving in military hospitals, clinics, research facilities, ships, or operational units worldwide
Requirements to Become a Navy Commissioned Officer
Applicants must generally meet the following qualifications:
• United States citizen
• Accepted to or enrolled in an accredited MD or DO program
• Meet Navy medical and physical fitness standards
• Eligible to obtain a security clearance
• Demonstrate strong moral character and leadership potential
• Able to commission before age 42 (waivers may be considered)
• Successfully complete Navy officer accession requirements
