Certified Nurse Assistant

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)

Position Summary

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides direct student support services under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The CNA assists students with activities of daily living (ADLs), mobility, personal care, and general health support while promoting student dignity, comfort, safety, and independence within the educational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming, and hygiene.
  • Assist with transfers, ambulation, positioning, and mobility.
  • Support students during classroom and school activities.
  • Assist with safe use of mobility equipment.
  • Observe and report changes in student condition to supervising nurses.
  • Measure and document intake/output and other assigned observations.
  • Maintain infection prevention and standard precautions.
  • Support student comfort and safety throughout the school day.
  • Assist with non-clinical health office functions.
  • Accurately document services provided.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Follow school safety procedures and emergency protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current New York State Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
  • Completion of an approved CNA training program.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to pass criminal background and fingerprint screening.
  • Ability to safely lift, transfer, and assist students.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in school-based healthcare.
  • Experience working with pediatric populations.
  • Experience supporting students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures.
  • Familiarity with mobility equipment and assistive devices.
