Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing services to students in accordance with New York State regulations, district policies, and the direction of the supervising Registered Nurse or Medical Director. The LPN supports student health, medication administration, emergency response, documentation, and individualized care while promoting a safe and healthy educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer prescribed medications following physician orders and district protocols.
- Maintain accurate student health records.
- Assist in implementing Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs).
- Provide first aid and emergency nursing care.
- Monitor students with chronic or acute medical conditions.
- Observe student health status and promptly report concerns.
- Assist with health screenings as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of student health information.
- Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, parents, and healthcare providers.
- Participate in emergency response activities.
- Complete required documentation and reports accurately and timely.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and district regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Ability to pass criminal background and fingerprint screening.
- Experience in pediatric, school, community, or healthcare settings preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- School nursing experience.
- Experience working with children with disabilities.
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans.
- Experience with medication administration in educational settings.
