American Indian Education Specialist
1.00 FTE Middle School & High School American Indian Education Staff - Redwood Area School District is seeking applications for a full-time position to share duties in both the middle school and high school setting. General duties include: Work to strengthen and promote a positive experience and educational outcomes for American Indian students. Building meaningful relationships with students, families and faculty which support the academic, social, emotional and cultural needs to empower students to fulfill their potential. Providing strategies to improve comprehension, testing skills, and a smooth transition from middle school to high school which will lead to graduation completion in four years. Guidance and opportunities will also be offered for a positive transition into post secondary college and career preparation.
Qualifications include: Native American preference, Bachelor's degree preferred (minimum of an associate degree) knowledge of American Indian nations (specifically the Dakota of Mni Sota Makoce), knowledge of American Indian education programs and of state and federal laws pertaining to American Indians, experience working with American Indian youth and families, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to understand and maintain confidentiality, self motivated, strong time management and organizational skills, available beyond the school calendar (evening/weekend student/parent/community meetings & events and some summer hours), able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner. This position is 180 contract days. Wage is $21-$25/hour based on education and experience.
