What You Will Be Doing
The junior estimator will be assigned various aspects of the senior estimator scope of work until he/she is able to skillfully execute all responsibilities without assistance and oversight.
The senior estimator is responsible for coordinating shear wall, joist and rafter designs with an outsourced engineering firm, quantifying materials needed for construction, maintaining accurate takeoff data for windows, doors, millwork, masonry, etc., preparing purchase orders for new home starts and conducting on-site material validations. This position reports to the Purchasing Manager. Working remotely is not an option.
Essential Job Functions
- Independent travel to jobs sites to validate installed work and clearly report finding in written and verbal form.
- Visualize construction methods, read code requirements, interpret detail drawings, read span charts.
- Quantify materials and labor conceptually from plan drawings and specifications.
- Requires self-motivation and assuming total responsibility for the work.
- Bid and communicate with material suppliers and manufacturers.
- Efficiently work with computer databases and excel for data manipulation.
- Schedule and prioritize numerous estimating and job start projects.
- Develops relationships with engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and team members.
- Resolve order and delivery issues in coordination with construction team and suppliers.
- Use Planswift as an estimating tool, and Brix as a database tool.
- Other duties as assigned to aid in the successful and profitable operation of the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Desire to work in the single-family construction industry.
- Demonstrate exceptional time management skills, ability to think critically and keep multiple projects organized at the same time.
- 4 Year degree in construction management preferred, but not required.
