Lateral Firefighter EMT

Lateral Firefighter/EMT

NTN Testing and Application period: July 22, 2026 - September 16, 2026 6:00PM MDT

Salary:

Hiring range $77,576 - $84,776 annually, depending on experience and placement within the salary schedule. Qualified lateral candidates may be eligible for advanced step placement based on verified firefighting experience. Additional compensation is provided for advanced EMS certifications. (Annual salary reflect the departments 48/96 schedule and does not include overtime or advanced EMS certification pay)

EMS Certification Pay: AEMT +$1.08/hr| EMT-Intermediate +$2.17/hr| Paramedic +$3.25/hr

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of continuous full-time service as either a career structural firefighter or a firefighter employed by a combination fire department with 24-hour staffing.
  • National Registry or State of Wyoming EMT Basic or higher EMS certification
  • Proof of attendance and graduation from a 12-week career-oriented fire recruit academy
  • IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I and II
  • 19 Years of age or older
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Possess a valid drivers license

Preferred: Pro Board or IFSAC Hazardous Materials Technician

*Please note that the State of Wyoming Fire Marshals Office will not grant reciprocity for any IFSAC or Pro Board certifications that are older than 5 years. If your certifications are older than 5 years you will have 1 year to complete the required certifications.

Candidate Testing Process:

  • All candidates will be required to complete and pass the NTN FireTeam and PSSA exam administered by the National Testing Network no later than September 16, 2026 6:ooPM MDT
  • Candidates that successfully pass the written exam will be invited to participate in the Physical Agility Test (PAT) on September 23, 2026. 
  • Candidates that sucessfully pass the Physically Agility Test (PAT) or submit a valid CPAT will participate in the Fire Civil Service Oral Interview on September 24, 2026. *All interviews are in-person. No virtual interviews will be conducted.
  • Candidates must obtain an overall score of 75% to be eligible for employment with Rock Springs Fire Department.
  • Complete a City of Rock Springs Fire Department application by September 16, 2026  at https://www.rswy.net/how_do_i/apply_for_a_job.php

Once you have passed all testing requirements; written exam, physical agility test, and oral interviews you will move into our background investigation process. Please note that the Rock Springs Fire Department conducts extensive background investigations. 

 

IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING AUTOMATIC  DISQUALIFIERS YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH ROCK SPRINGS FIRE DEPARTMENT

Automatic Disqualifiers:

1.       Dishonorable Discharge: Discharge from the Military.

2.       Felony Conviction: An individual who has been convicted of and/or received deferred judgment for a felony will be disqualified.

3.       Soft Drug Use: Individuals who have illegally used soft drugs as least one time within the thirty-six

(36) months prior to the date of the application, and up to and including date of appointment will be disqualified.

Definition: Soft drug use would include but not be limited to the following: the use of Marijuana, any Schedule Ill, IV or V controlled substance, the use of which would be classified as a misdemeanor. Except when the drug or substance is used pursuant to being dispensed by or under the direction of a person licensed or authorized by law to prescribe, administer, or dispense such drug or substance for bona fide medical needs.

4.       Hard Drug Use: Individuals who have illegally used hard drugs at least one time within the sixty (60) months prior to the date of application, and up to and including date of appointment will be disqualified.

Definition: Hard drug use would include but not be limited to the following: the use of any Schedule I or II controlled substance, the use of which is classified as a felony. Except when the drug or substance is used pursuant to being dispensed by or under the direction of a person licensed or authorized by law to prescribe, administer, or dispense such drug or substance for bona fide medical needs.

5.       Domestic Violence: Applicants are not eligible for employment if they have been convicted of any domestic violence related offense. Other domestic incidents or reports will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

6.       Sexual Assault: Individuals who have been convicted of and/or received deferred judgment for a misdemeanor involving sexual assault or are a registered sex offender will be disqualified.

7.       Child Abuse: Individuals who have been convicted of and/or received a deferred judgment for a misdemeanor involving child abuse will be disqualified.

8.       DUI: Individuals who have one or more convictions and/or deferred judgments for a D UI offense within the thirty- six (36) months prior to the date of application, and up to and including date of appointment will be disqualified.

9.       Suspended Driver's license: The loss of driving privileges due to moving violations with-in the thirty-six (36) months prior to the date of the application, up to and including the date of appointment, will be disqualified.
