Hugo Kohl Jewelry is seeking a Goldsmith / Bench Jeweler to join our small, close-knit team in downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft, has strong foundational bench skills, and is excited to continue learning and growing as a jeweler.

About the Position

This is a hands-on bench position with a wide variety of work. A large portion of the day will consist of jewelry repair and restoration, along with fabricating new jewelry for our boutique, working on custom pieces, and assisting with the production and finishing of jewelry made in-house.

Our shop combines modern bench practices with traditional jewelry-making and manufacturing techniques, including die-striking. This position provides an opportunity to gain experience with techniques that are becoming increasingly uncommon in the jewelry industry.

Typical work may include:

Jewelry repair and restoration

Ring sizing

Soldering

Fabrication

Polishing and finishing

Stone setting

Custom jewelry projects

Preparing and finishing jewelry for our boutique

Working with gold and sterling silver

Learning and assisting with traditional die-striking techniques

Maintaining a clean and organized bench and workspace

Because we are a small working jewelry shop, the position offers plenty of variety and the opportunity to be involved in many different aspects of the jewelry-making process.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with a solid foundation in bench jewelry skills and a strong attention to detail. Previous professional experience is welcomed, but we are also interested in recent jewelry school graduates who have strong foundational skills and are eager to continue learning.

Ideal candidates will have experience or training in:

Soldering

Ring sizing

Jewelry repair

Fabrication

Polishing and finishing

Working with precious metals

Stone setting and additional bench skills are a plus.

Beyond technical ability, we are looking for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, willing to learn, takes pride in their work, and is committed to producing quality craftsmanship.

Schedule

This is a full-time position.

Our shop hours are:

Sunday & Monday: Closed
Tuesday–Friday: 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
Saturday: 9:00 AM–2:00 PM

Having Sundays and Mondays closed provides two consecutive days off each week while still allowing our team to serve customers during the week and on Saturdays.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay starts at $20 per hour, with room to grow based on skills, experience, and development within the position.

Hugo Kohl Jewelry is a jewelry boutique and working goldsmith shop located in downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia. Our work includes jewelry repair and restoration, custom jewelry, engagement rings, wedding bands, and jewelry fabricated and finished in our own workshop.
