Special Education Teacher
Learning Springs Academy is seeking a compassionate, creative, and highly motivated Special Education Teacher to join our team and work with elementary and middle school students in our inclusive, individualized school setting.
Our teachers play a critical role in helping students with diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, and academic needs build confidence, develop independence, and experience success. We are looking for an educator who understands that every child learns differently and is committed to creating a structured, supportive, and engaging classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver individualized, engaging instruction based on each student's academic, developmental, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
Develop and implement differentiated lessons and instructional activities.
Adapt curriculum, materials, assignments, and teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs.
Support students in developing academic, communication, social, executive functioning, behavioral, and daily living skills.
Implement IEP goals and maintain accurate documentation of student progress.
Collect and monitor data related to academic and behavioral goals.
Collaborate closely with BCBAs, Behavior Therapists, speech and occupational therapists, families, and other members of the student's support team.
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute meaningful information regarding student progress, needs, and recommendations.
Establish clear classroom expectations, routines, and behavioral supports.
Implement positive behavior-support strategies and respond appropriately to challenging behaviors.
Maintain a safe, respectful, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Foster student independence, self-advocacy, confidence, and positive social interactions.
Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and caregivers.
Maintain accurate student records, lesson plans, progress reports, and other required documentation.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.
Collaborate with the school administration and teaching team to support the overall success of the school program.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
Valid California Special Education teaching credential or appropriate authorization preferred/required based on position and assignment.
Experience working with students with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, or other special needs strongly preferred.
Knowledge of IEPs, differentiated instruction, behavior-support strategies, and evidence-based special education practices.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Patience, flexibility, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused when addressing challenging behaviors.
Strong commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Required Clearances
Applicants must have, or be able to obtain:
California DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance
TB clearance
Any additional clearances or training required by the school
