About the role

We're hiring a Design Engineer to join our founding team and own product surfaces from rough idea to shipped React. This role combines product design and production engineering in one person. You'll work directly with the founders and hotel operators, set the craft bar for everything customers touch, and turn complex hotel workflows into intuitive, polished software.

This is not a designer who hands work off to engineering, and it's not a frontend engineer building from finished specs. It's a product-builder role for someone who wants to design and build in one motion.

What you'll do

• Own product surfaces end to end, from ideation and prototyping through production
• Design directly in the browser and ship responsive, high-performance React interfaces
• Translate complex hospitality workflows across revenue, marketing, guest management, and operations into interfaces that are easy to understand at a glance
• Own and evolve our design system across components, tokens, interaction patterns, and visual language
• Keep Figma and production code closely aligned
• Prototype AI-native workflows using tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and v0, then turn the best ideas into real product
• Work directly with founders and hotel operators to drive product decisions through user feedback and data
• Raise the quality bar for design, UX, and frontend engineering across the company

Our ideal candidate

• Intensely curious about design, software engineering, technology, and learning generally
• Obsessed with craft and taste, with strong attention to typography, motion, empty states, responsiveness, and pixel-level polish
• Has a portfolio or body of shipped work demonstrating both strong design sensibility and frontend engineering
• Fluent in React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and modern CSS, with a strong feel for motion and animation
• Comfortable owning large sections of a codebase and understanding how the frontend connects to APIs, data models, and product logic
• Biased toward action and rapid iteration, with the ability to move from an ambiguous idea or sketch to a working prototype in hours
• Genuinely AI-native and comfortable using models to write code, prototype ideas, build agents, automate repetitive work, and create leverage
• A clear communicator who cares about business outcomes as much as UI quality

Requirements

We don't require formal credentials. We do require:

• Exceptional product taste: You have shipped interfaces where you owned both the design and frontend implementation and can explain the decisions behind them
• Strong frontend engineering: You are fluent in React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and modern CSS, with real care for clean components, responsiveness, motion, accessibility, and performance
• Full-stack comfort: You don't need to be an infrastructure engineer, but you can work comfortably with APIs, data models, and product logic
• High agency: You can take an ambiguous problem, ask the right questions, make smart assumptions, and move without waiting for a perfect spec
• AI-native workflow: You already use advanced AI coding tools regularly and can show how they improve both your craft and your pace
• Clear communication: You thrive on a fast-moving, highly collaborative team and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical teammates
• Ownership mentality: You care about the outcome, not just the artifact

Location

This role is four to five days a week in person in New York City and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
