Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Research Affiliate I will offer a stimulating opportunity for an ambitious individual to advance their post-doctoral research skills through research training in molecular microbiology and pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in a mouse model of infection. This will entail working with guidance by the Principal Investigator with increasing independence to design and execute experiments. The incumbent will be involved in experiments that deploy techniques of molecular genetics, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and cell biology, specifically within the framework of a mouse model of Mtb infection. The duties of the Research Affiliate I will include the extensive handling of mice, infecting mice with Mtb, performing intrapulmonary delivery of drugs in Mtb-infected mice, and analyzing lung pathology of these mice. In this mentored position, the incumbent will manage the daily operation of the laboratory animal program that includes writing IACUC protocols, participating in routine Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)-related meetings, managing mouse breeding, and assisting with routine husbandry.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in a biology-related field and three years of post-doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an Animal BSL3 laboratory. Experience performing Mtb-infection in mice and performing necropsy of Mtb-infected mice. Experience in intrapulmonary delivery of drugs/small molecules to mice. Experience writing IACUC protocols.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position expected to last one year from the date of hire with potential for continued funding thereafter. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Visa sponsorship may be available for this position, in accordance with applicable federal requirements.

Travel up to 10% of the time will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

This position is fully onsite and does not allow telecommuting.

The incumbent in this position will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position requires occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays.

Work Location Expectations
