For over 50 years, Legal Aid of East Tennessee has worked to build stronger communities and improve lives by providing high-quality legal services free of charge to qualifying individuals in areas such as consumer, housing, family, public benefits, and a range of other miscellaneous matters. We are advocates for the elderly, for families, and for victims of domestic violence and work closely with our clients to help navigate legal challenges and seek out justice. Every day, we proudly answer the call for high-quality legal services that help change lives and improve communities across 26 counties from Chattanooga to the Tri Cities.

 

 

We are seeking a full-time Paralegal to support Legal Aid of East Tennessee’s Pro Bono Project, our award-winning volunteer attorney program. Through strong partnerships with individual volunteer attorneys, law firms, bar associations, and other partner agencies, the Pro Bono Project connects low-income clients with volunteer attorneys who help address their civil legal needs.

This position will have varied responsibilities including client screening and intake, drafting correspondence and other documents, creating and managing files, communicating with clients and volunteers, assisting with preparation and execution of events, and performing other duties as needed. This position primarily supports efforts in the Knoxville and Chattanooga areas and regular travel throughout those areas will be required. Less frequent travel to the Johnson City area may also be required. Candidates should possess cultural sensitivity for the communities we serve and the courage to reflect and uphold the mission and values of LAET.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or certification from an accredited paralegal program. 

Salary: Dependent upon experience, from $41,079 for entry level candidates. LAET offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement, and paid leave.
