Power Systems Engineering & Programming Internship

Intern Program Overview

  • Twelve-week full-time summer program, performed either fully remotely or in-office if local. Schedule will be adjusted to accommodate student’s summer vacation.
  • A part-time or coop arrangement may be possible during the Spring/Fall 2024 academic terms.
  • Interns will individually work under the direction of their managers.
  • Hourly-based, paid internship, approximately 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • At the completion of the program, the intern may be evaluated and considered for possible future full-time employment upon graduation.

Internship Description:

  • Gain skill in specialized software tools including ETAP and other power system software use in the design of utility-scale renewable energy power plant facilities.
  • Utilizing Python or other programming languages, create or modify process automations to assist Power Systems departmental tasks.
  • Acquire knowledge of PV & BESS system components such as modules, racking, inverters and Balance of Systems (BOS).
  • May be required to support the creation of models and performance of analyses for Utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes.
  • Work under the direction of full-time staff.
  • Perform essential duties including meeting deliverables and deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Minimum 60 semester hours completed in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar.
  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level ABET accredited engineering program with a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.
  • Experience writing code in python is required.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and theories is strongly preferred.
  • Coursework or prior internship experience in data science, python programming, or power engineering is strongly preferred.
  • Introductory knowledge of relevant software including ETAP, and similar is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Efficient time management – must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and independently, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines.
