Come join a great team at State Hospital West (SHW)! We are seeking a certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for SHW located in Nampa. SHW is a 16-bed Adolescent Psychiatric Treatment Hospital (for adolescents between 11 and 18 years old) nestled between Ridgecrest and Centennial golf courses on a picturesque piece of state property along the Nampa Interstate 84 corridor. SHW provides psychiatric inpatient treatment care for Idaho’s adolescent citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living and is accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

This position does require that you are a certified through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation. This position also requires applicants to become certified in CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Employees will be required to work weekends, holidays, and day shifts.
This position is not eligible for telework.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Assess patients' recreation and activity skills; analyze, interpret, and enter assessment results in the electronic database.
- Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary SHW Treatment Team in the development of an individualized treatment plan for each patient. Report to the Treatment Team any observational and interpretive data regarding patients.
- Conducts identified assessments and reviews case records to identify long and short term recreational treatment interventions.
- Conducts individual and group programs to meet established goals.
- Refers patients to appropriate community resources.
- Documents treatment prepares reports and recreational therapy discharge plan.
- Train paraprofessionals in the implementation of recreational therapy programs and intramural activities.
- Oversee, coordinate, and assist staff and volunteers in planning and conducting recreational and rehabilitation services both on location and off site.
- Provide professional training and consultation for clinical and nursing staff in areas of therapeutic recreation, leisure skills, activity therapies, and psychiatric rehabilitation.
- Present in-service training on areas of expertise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position. - Licensed or registered, if applicable, by the State of Idaho; and (ii) Is (A) Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or (B) Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; or (C) Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, Idaho Code 54.3706; or (D) Has completed a training course approved by the State. REFERENCE 42 CFR 483.24
- Experience developing recreational therapy treatment goals for clients. Typically gained by at least six months experience developing therapeutic recreation treatment goals for activities related to client skills and needs.
- Experience planning and conducting individual and group therapy sessions. Typically gained through at least six months experience plus completion of coursework such as group dynamics, recreational activities, or experiential education; leisure education is also acceptable.
