Desktop Management Specialist
The Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Enterprise Services (DES), Bureau of Information Technology Services, (BITS) is recruiting to fill a Desktop Management Specialist position.

Where we are located: DHS is located at 1 West Wilson Street in the heart of downtown Madison. This position has the ability to work remotely up to 4 days per week with the other 1 day in the office. This position can be headquartered at either 1 West Wilson Street in Madison, or at 819 North 6th Street in Milwaukee.

Position Summary
As the Desktop Management Specialist, you will support theDHS Desktop Architect with the following duties:
- Managing and securing all DHS Windows endpoints.
- Defining high-level migration plans to move from current to future states.
- Detection of critical deficiencies and recommend solutions.
- Aiding in research, evaluation and selection of hardware and software.
- Designing of standard configurations.
In addition, you will also be responsible for:
- Administration of all Desktop Management tools used within DHS.
- Management of DHS’ library of software deployment packages.
- Development of desktop/laptops/tablet images.
- Providing escalated support for PC endpoint incidents and problems.
This position requires a high-level of technical expertise in desktop computing technologies including endpoint security, Windows operating systems, Microsoft Group Policy, software distribution, and Microsoft Active Directory.
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $40.00 and $47.00 per hour (approximately between $83,200 and $97,700 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as an IS Technical Services Specialist and is in pay schedule and range 07/33.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
Employees must have access to secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
For positions that allow remote working flexibility, working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances due to the need to report to an office location in Wisconsin on short notice.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Experience using Ivanti EndPoint Manager or SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager).
- Experience administering or managing devices such as printers, laptops, or desktops.
- Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving complex installation issues.
In addition, highly qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience troubleshooting installation and software removal issues.
- Experience testing software or hardware (e.g., model testing, installation testing, etc.).
- Experience with the image creation process for virtualization, desktops, and laptops.
- Experience using and troubleshooting Windows Registry.
