Driving to Independence is a thriving private practice specializing in adaptive driving evaluations and training, proudly serving communities across Arizona and New Mexico. We are currently seeking a motivated professional—with or without prior experience in adaptive driving—to join our dynamic and growing team.
Position Overview:
This unique and rewarding role involves working independently to conduct adaptive driving assessments, deliver behind-the-wheel training, and make personalized recommendations for safe driving practices. Our clients are individuals with medical conditions or disabilities who require specialized support to evaluate or regain their driving independence.

What We’re Looking For:
- A licensed Occupational Therapist or related healthcare professional (COTA, PT, SLP, Special education professional, driver educator) with experience in physical, cognitive, and/or developmental diagnoses.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively connect with clients across all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
- Exceptional writing and documentation abilities.
- Interest or experience in adaptive driving equipment and vehicle modifications.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
We understand this is a unique and emerging specialty practice area. We are happy to mentor to work towards an eventual role as a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS)
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical and behind-the-wheel driver assessments
- Develop and implement personalized driver training plans
- Make evidence-based recommendations, including retirement from driving when appropriate
- Complete state-specific documentation for licensure with the Motor Vehicle Department
- Provide guidance on adaptive driving equipment and vehicle modifications
- Willingness to pursue CDRS certification if not already held (training and mentorship provided)
