Job Title: High School Social Studies Teacher (Advanced Placement Experience)

Reports To: Principal

 

Position Overview:

The Hatboro-Horsham School District is seeking a dynamic and committed High School Social Studies Teacher with demonstrated experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) coursework. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of social studies content and pedagogy, familiarity with College Board AP protocols, and a strong commitment to academic excellence, civic education, and inclusive teaching practices. This position includes instruction in both core social studies and AP-level courses.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide rigorous, engaging instruction in courses such as U.S. History, World History, Government, and AP-level courses (e.g., AP U.S. History, AP Government).
  • Align curriculum and instructional practices with College Board AP standards and the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Social Studies.
  • Develop and implement assessments that prepare students for AP exams and measure understanding of historical content and analytical skills.
  • Incorporate current technology tools for instructional delivery, communication, and collaboration.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages inquiry, debate, and civic participation.
  • Use data to differentiate instruction and provide targeted academic support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and professional learning communities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff to support student learning and school initiatives.
  • Participate in school events, parent meetings, and other responsibilities that support student growth and district goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Social Studies Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate in Social Studies (Grades 7–12).
  • Experience teaching Advanced Placement courses and familiarity with College Board protocols and expectations.
  • Possesses a positive attitude toward the teaching profession, service to the district, and the importance and purpose of the education program.
  • Proficient in current technology for individual or group demonstration and communication.
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate the needs of students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and external organizations.
  • Exhibits excellent classroom management and maintains a respectful, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills to provide accurate information, follow and give directions, and foster collaboration.
