Job Summary
Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide equipment, supplies, and technical assistance for instruction and research; supervises animal care assistants; performs routine care, cleaning and maintenance of the Animal Suite, preparation areas and instructional laboratories; maintains and organizes laboratory and field equipment and supplies; purchases and prepares materials and supplies.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with faculty and staff on daily basis to prepare designated equipment and materials for the operation of courses and research; maintain, organize, and distribute field equipment and supplies.
• Supervise animal care assistants; maintain and care for the animals housed in the Animal Suite and other department spaces; ultimately responsible for all daily animal care as well as animal care for all breaks and holidays, as needed.
• Conform to all animal care related regulations as put forth by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. (IACUC); to include training and certifications, following IACUC guidelines and inspection recommendations; assisting with writing animal use protocols for classroom labs.
• Research and purchase animal care, field equipment and classroom supplies (incl. animal specimens for dissection).
• Responsible for personal/individual P-card management to include purchasing, reconciliation, and budget.
• Assess and set up classroom needs daily; maintain cleanliness of the Animal Suite, preparation rooms and classrooms.
• Responsible for hiring student animal-care assistants to include creating and maintaining job descriptions, posting jobs, receiving, and reviewing applications, making hiring decisions, and approving time sheets.
• Aid and support the department in the absence of other laboratory staff.
• Assist in maintaining lab equipment.
• Assist in the preparation of chemical solutions (occasionally).
• Assist in maintaining chemical inventory and SDS information.
• Assist with class field trips by occasionally driving and helping with class projects.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate plus college level courses or equivalent work experience; two years related experience or demonstrated interest in biology/ecology-related technical work; physical effort including prolonged standing, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, and lifting. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College's motor vehicle insurance carrier.
Preferred Qualifications
Some college/ Associate's degree in a related field.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
• $19.25 to $21.40 per hour
