9to5 Winning Justice for Working Women

9to5 Community Internship Program

July - September 2020 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

There was a really wonderful sense of community and togetherness between members of the internship. The way the internship was structured the program did a really good job of integrating learning into the internship role. The Internship definitely expanded resources I had access to and was aware of. It gave me opportunities to sit in on meetings and other webinars I would not have known about or had access to before. I feel like I really produced a professional final product higher-level that I've ever had the opportunity to do on any of my school work. I'm really proud of the project I worked on and it certainly gave me skills for producing other professional documents as well.

What I wish was different

Group meetings were around every other week if not once a week, which with coronavirus made it a bit hard to maintain that sense of togetherness we were striving for. But all around a wonderful experience.

Advice

Explore and take advantage of every opportunity that is presented to you. This public policy internship is not at all related to my major, but it was something that peaked my interest and I absolutely fell in love with the work I was doing. Now I am heavily considering changing my major to something related to government and am an office manager at my schools Center for Community Engagement and Social Change. You never know the path different experiences will lead you down.
